Frequently Asked Questions

Praxis 5025 (Early Childhood Education) is a content knowledge exam for prospective early childhood teachers. It measures whether candidates understand the core academic subject areas young children are expected to learn.

The exam focuses strictly on content knowledge in five areas:

  • Language and Literacy (30%)
  • Mathematics (25%)
  • Social Studies (14%)
  • Science (14%)
  •  Health and Physical Education; Creative and Performing Arts (17%)

It is designed to assess subject-matter knowledge rather than instructional pedagogy.

Many candidates find Praxis 5025 moderately challenging because it covers a broad range of academic content areas in a single exam. The largest portions of the test are Language and Literacy (30%) and Mathematics (25%), which require strong foundational knowledge.

Unlike pedagogy-based exams, 5025 focuses on what you know about the content itself. Candidates who are comfortable with elementary-level math, reading foundations, science concepts, and social studies standards typically perform well with structured review.

Praxis 5025 includes 120 selected-response (multiple-choice) questions. There are no constructed-response questions.

The total testing time is 2 hours. The exam is computer-delivered, and a calculator is not permitted.

Praxis 5025 focuses strictly on early childhood content knowledge in subject areas such as language and literacy, math, science, social studies, and health and PE. It does not assess pedagogy in depth and does not include constructed-response questions.

Praxis 5024, by contrast, combines content knowledge with teaching practice. It includes both selected-response questions and constructed-response questions and assesses child development, assessment, developmentally appropriate practice, and professional responsibilities.

In short:

  • 5025 = Content knowledge only
  • 5024 = Content knowledge plus pedagogy and written application
