Frequently Asked Questions

Praxis 7005 can feel challenging because it tests a wide range of science topics across earth, life, and physical science. Many questions assess conceptual understanding rather than memorization.

Common difficulty areas include:

  • Physical science concepts such as force, motion, and energy
  • Earth science topics like weather systems and the water cycle
  • Life science processes including ecosystems and cellular functions

The test requires you to interpret diagrams, apply scientific reasoning, and analyze basic data. With structured review of all three domains and consistent practice, the exam is very manageable.

The Praxis 7005 includes 50 selected-response (multiple-choice) questions.

The questions are distributed across three science domains:

  • Earth and Space Science – 16 questions (32%)
  • Life Science – 17 questions (34%)
  • Physical Science – 17 questions (34%)

Because Life Science and Physical Science together make up nearly 70% of the exam, you should prioritize strong understanding of ecosystems, heredity, force, motion, energy, and basic chemistry concepts. Some questions may be unscored and used for test development purposes.

The Praxis 7005 is 55 minutes long. With 50 questions in 55 minutes, you have just over one minute per question, so steady pacing is important.

The test is computer delivered and consists entirely of selected-response questions. An on-screen scientific calculator is provided. It is built into the computer-delivered testing system—you may not bring your own calculator.

Because the calculator interface may feel different from a handheld model, you are strongly encouraged to practice using the official version before test day. You can access the practice calculator here.

Most states require a scaled score between 150 and 160, but requirements differ depending on your state’s certification standards. Praxis scores are reported as scaled scores. A scaled score adjusts for slight differences in difficulty between test versions, ensuring fairness across administrations. Because of this scaling process, the number of questions you answer correctly does not directly equal your final reported score.

Always check your state’s Department of Education website to confirm the exact passing score you need. You can access information on passing scores by state on the ETS website.
