The Praxis 8006 is considered moderately challenging because it measures both your knowledge of reading development and your ability to apply that knowledge to real classroom situations. The exam includes 80 selected-response questions, with about 10 to 15 percent made up of Tasks of Teaching Reading questions that present instructional scenarios.

To pass, you need a strong understanding of foundational literacy skills, fluency and vocabulary, and comprehension and written expression. Success requires more than memorizing definitions. You must be able to analyze student needs, interpret instructional situations, and identify the most effective, evidence-based teaching or assessment decision.

Passing scores vary by state, so the exact score you need depends on your state's certification standards. Praxis scores are reported as scaled scores. A scaled score adjusts for slight differences in difficulty between test versions, ensuring fairness across administrations. Because of this scaling process, the number of questions you answer correctly does not directly equal your final reported score.

Yes. If you do not pass the Praxis 8006, you may retake the exam after a 28-day waiting period. The 28-day period begins on your test date. Before retesting, review your score report carefully and focus on the content areas where you scored lowest.
