The Praxis PLT 5625 is one of several exams prospective teachers are required to pass to become professionally certified.
The purpose of the Praxis Principles of Learning and Teaching 5625 is to assess a prospective teacher's understanding of educational practices and theories, professional issues, and related topics that are necessary for beginning professional practice.
The Praxis PLT 5625 is a K-12 exam. That means you will encounter test questions ranging from elementary to high school scenarios.
It is important you check your state’s specific requirements by accessing your state Department of Education’s website. You can also check HERE.
The Praxis PLT 5625 K-12 exam consists of approximately 100 selected-response questions. There is no constructed-response (essay) task for this exam.
The test has a range of questions on education theory, best practices in classroom management, content-area reading instruction, differentiation for struggling students, professional development, assessment, and major laws in education.
In addition, the PLT 5625 questions focus on teaching scenarios in the following four categories:
Currently, the passing score for all states that use the Praxis PLT 5625 is 157. This is a scale score, which means your raw score (how many you got correct out of 100 questions) is converted into a scale score using a statistical formula.
The most significant difference between the Praxis PLT 5725 and all the other PLT exams is that the PLT 5625 does not have a constructed-response section. The exam is all selected-response.
The PLT 5625 contains the same four content categories as the other PLT exams:
The Praxis PLT 5625 has approximately 100 questions. They are broken up by content category.
Here is an example of a type of question you will see on the Praxis PLT 5625. This is taken from the ETS Study Companion for this exam.
To determine how well the students in an eighth-grade class are reading as compared to other students in the nation, a teacher should examine the results of which of the following kinds of tests?
Correct answer B
Explanation: For this question, you need to understand the different types of assessments educators use and the purpose of each assessment.
A norm-referenced assessment compares an individual's performance to that of a larger group of individuals who have previously taken the same assessment.
The primary purpose of norm-referenced assessments is to determine how an individual's performance ranks relative to the performance of others in the norm group, which is what this question outlines.
A criterion assessment is used to measure outcomes against a set of standards. An aptitude test measures a person's natural or inherent ability to perform specific tasks or acquire certain skills.
Finally, an Informal Reading Inventory (IRI) is an assessment tool educators use to gauge students' reading abilities and identify their strengths and weaknesses in reading.
Please understand that you may have several additional questions on your test. ETS, the company that makes the exam, will often field test new items on the exams. You will never know which test items count toward your score and which items are being field tested. You can learn more about this HERE.
Field testing items is common practice in the testing industry. Therefore, if you see a couple more questions on your exam, don’t panic. Just answer all the questions on your test.
Everyone is different in terms of how they want to prepare for the exam. People have different strengths and weaknesses, and it’s essential you choose the right program for you. The following are a few resources you can consider when preparing for this test.
