Is the Praxis 5412 hard to pass?

The Praxis 5412 is a complex exam designed to measure the skills an entry-level school administrator needs to be competent in a school leadership position. The test is aligned to the Professional Standards for Educational Leaders (PSEL).

While the test is for entry-level school administrators, it is a lengthy, difficult exam and will require you to be proficient in many areas of educational leadership. The test is scenario-based, meaning you will be required to read lengthy situational questions and choose the best answer based on national standards in school leadership.

You will have two hours and 45 minutes to complete the exam. There are 120 selected-response questions on the test.

The six content categories covered on the exam are:

  1. Strategic Leadership - 20 questions
  2. Instructional Leadership - 27 questions
  3. Climate and Cultural Leadership - 22 questions
  4. Ethical Leadership - 19 questions
  5. Organizational Leadership - 16 questions
  6. Community Engagement Leadership - 16 questions

There is a lot of information covered on this test. But fear not! Our study guide covers it all.

How many questions do I have to get correct to pass the Praxis 5412??

It is difficult to predict exactly how many questions you must get correct to pass the Praxis 5412 because a scale score is used rather than a raw score. This means that your raw score–how many you got correct–is put into a formula to calculate a scale score.

To keep things simple, we recommend scoring at least a 75% on the practice tests before you go in to take the exam. Getting 75% of the questions correct indicates you are ready to take the actual test.

If you would like to learn more about how Praxis exams are scored, check out this blog.

Does the Praxis 5412 study guide have the same questions as the real exam?

While our study guide is aligned with the test, it is against testing policy to share items on the actual exam. State tests are secure, standardized, and heavily regulated.

There are hundreds of test questions in the item banks for each exam. When you take the exam, your version of the test will be different from other versions and will have questions randomly pulled from the item banks. This ensures test security, validity, and reliability. Trying to memorize what you think will be on your test is an exercise in futility. Instead, you should study the skills and content outlined in the specifications and blueprint of the exam.

Everything in our study guide is aligned to the test specifications and blueprint for the exam. That way, you can review how the test is designed and what skills are assessed. The questions in our study guide are structured similarly to what you will encounter on test day, but they are not the same exact questions on the real exam.

Is this the best study guide for the Praxis 5412?

Obviously, we believe our study guide is the very best resource you can purchase to prepare for the Praxis 5412. The guide is sectioned out by each content category, and within those categories, we’ve aligned all of the information to the test specifications and blueprint. This ensures you are studying what you will see on test day–nothing more, nothing less.

In each section, there are practice items that align specifically with the skills you just studied, so you can see exactly what a question for that skill or content will be like on test day. In addition, we have detailed answer explanations for every question in our study guide.

Finally, every practice test question is sorted by test skill. This means that each answer explanation will highlight which skill this question is aligned to. That way, you can go back and work on the skills for which you scored low. This helps you study smarter, not harder.

Does the Praxis 5412 contain practice tests?

Yes. There is a full-length practice test at the end of the study guide. In addition, the study guide has smaller practice tests for each content category. All of the questions are categorized by skill and contain detailed answer explanations.

How long should I study for the Praxis 5412?

People have a range of skill levels when it comes to this test, so it is difficult for us to tell you exactly how long you should study. Because this test covers an expansive amount of content, we recommend short, incremental practice over time. This is much better than cramming all your studying into one or two weekends. Using 20-30 minute study sessions over a 2-3 week period is ideal.

Can I be an assistant principal once I pass the Praxis 5412?

States use the Praxis 5412 to certify school administrators, so this exam is one of the steps you will take to gain your professional leadership certificate. However, every state has its own requirements that include advanced degrees in instructional leadership, minimum teaching experience, and other standards set by the state.

It is important that you visit your state’s Department of Education website and find out exactly what you’re required to do before registering for the exam or buying materials.

What other material should I combine this study guide with?

The exam is aligned with the Professional Standards for Educational Leaders (PSEL). These standards were designed by the National Policy Board Educational Administration (NPBEA). You should access their websites, get to know the standards, and reference them when studying for the test. Many of the questions come directly from these standards. We reference these standards throughout the study guide.

Made Studying Painless!

I was nervous going into this Praxis because it has been YEARS since I've taken a standardized test. This study guide broke everything down into easily digestible pieces, which made tackling the test much more manageable, and I actually felt confident going into the test. I passed on the first try because of the thorough explanations provided in the study guide; great attention to detail! THANK YOU!! I can't recommend this enough!

Mostly Useful...But With A Caveat

The practice test and explanations were helpful. As were the explanations of "good words." However, you have to know the kind of question being asked for the "good words" strategy to work. On the actual test, many "good word" answers will not be correct. I read through her whole manual, took the practice test, and then took the practice test that comes with the Praxis registration twice. I passed with 180. Encountered at least 5-10 major typos in the text that could be fixed with a cursory edit. The practice guide also is missing the 'match the phrase with a term' kind of questions. Granted, these are the easiest ones on the exam. Overall, I would recommend the digital study guide as a supplement to the Praxis provided practice tests, especially given the dearth of study materials for it. Thanks Kathleen!

THE BEST

I have been using these praxis study programs for years. I am a horrible test taker and could not pass any standardized assessment before Kathleen Jasper. I am so grateful for this program because I just passed my Leadership exam on the first attempt. If I had a million dollars I would definitely invest it into this company! Thank you Mrs and Mr Jasper!!!
